What changes on 1 March 2027?

When a gas hot water system in an existing Victorian home reaches end of life, it must be replaced with an efficient electric system such as a heat pump. Gas systems can still be repaired. See our 2027 changes guide for detail.

Are heat pumps noisy?

Modern units are quiet, similar to an air conditioner's outdoor unit. We check placement so it isn't near bedroom windows.

Do they work in Melbourne winters?
